About STeps
Officially launched in February 2024, STeps is ShoreTrack’s work integrated social enterprise where all profits go towards paying the wages of our trainees and/or providing training and wrap around support for school aged young people.
STeps provides the opportunity for young people to build their trades, employability and customer service skills in a supported work environment to develop their understanding of workplace expectations, while building links to local employers and community.
The STeps crew is made up of 8 trainees who are studying their Certificate II in Agriculture, and 5 qualified and experienced tradespeople.

Our Pilot
Providing pathways to employment through social enterprise activities primarily focussed on, but not limited to industries with employment outcomes in our region.

March 2021: Working with 12 disengaged marginalised young people, ST started working with BlazeAid and developed a lawn mowing run, providing the opportunity for youth to build trades and employability skills and connect with community.
4 young people found work and 9 returned to school.
March 2022: Working with 45 young people disengaged from school and or community, ST participated in community projects involving light construction, restoration, concreting, landscaping and painting as volunteers and as paid contractors. Supervised by experienced trades people, youth were able to develop a wide range of trades-based skills and successfully transition into a wide variety of apprenticeships and entry level positions.
19 found sustainable work.
April 2023: ST took on 16 early school leavers (Yr 11 and 12) and collaborated with Tocal Agricultural College to deliver a practical Certificate II in Rural Operations qualification. These young people work with tradespeople to build skills while participating in community work.
ST successfully employed 1 disengaged young person as a trainee.
February 2024: ST officially launched the STeps social enterprise. Revenue raised by STeps will be used to create a sustainable employment model for the trainees.
8 young people are currently employed as trainees for the STeps to build their practical skills, understanding of business and work and build connections to community.
